Cuddle and Read is a wonderful opportunity for parents of Senior Infants to cuddle up with their child and enjoy the wonders of reading together. This is a TPS initiative organised by our HSCLs to promote storytelling in the home and provide access to books for families. This enhances wellbeing and sets the foundations for literacy skills and positive language experiences.
Parents of Senior Infants pupils are invited to the TPS school library for two sessions, a week apart. For the third session the parents are invited to Tuam library where they meet the HSCL and local librarian in a supportive casual manner. They are given a tour of the library and supported to get library cards for themselves and their children. They are also given information about online library resources such as Borrow Box and LOTE4Kids.
Later the parents are joined by their child’s class in the library. They are encouraged to choose books together and “Cuddle and Read” a story. And of course borrow books to bring home.
