Ms Devane’s and Ms Ryan’s 6th Class would like to present to you our ReelLifeScience Animation titled Skully and the Brain.
We were focusing on behaviour and emotions in school so we became interested in how our brain deals with big emotions, we wanted to understand why we behave in certain ways sometimes.
We decided to do some research and enter into the ReelLifeScience competition.
We began by researching how our brain works and affects your behaviour. Once we’d gathered enough research, the fun stuff began! We wrote a script and then started drawing pictures for the animation. I was doing some art at the time, but when I got to see what the stop motion people were doing, I was entranced! We worked for many MANY days to get the stop motion complete, and luckily we got it done in time!
It was such a cool experience even though it was pretty challenging at times — like making sure every little movement was just right. The intro took about 4 tries and a LOT of problem solving but we did it eventually.— I really enjoyed the challenge. It was fun seeing everything come together frame by frame.
We used iPads to record the stop motion, which made it easier to capture all the shots we needed. We also used a green screen to create the background, which added a lot of creativity to the final look. It was fun experimenting with different scenes.
On top of that, we used props like Scully, who added a lot of character to the animation. We also made drawings to help bring the story to life — combining hand-drawn elements with stop motion gave it a unique style.
Then it was then time to start animating more of the parts, like the part with the emojis and the tiger running across the yard! When we finished all the clips, we had to edit them which was a bit challenging. It took a lot of teamwork and patience, but we learned so much and had a great time doing it.
Overall, we are really proud of all our hard work.
